Roman chamomile is one of the most calming oils in aromatherapy. Distilled from the small daisy-like flowers of Anthemis nobilis, it produces a sweet, apple-tinged floral oil that is gentler than its German counterpart. It is one of a small number of essential oils considered safe for use with young children when properly diluted, and is widely recommended for sleep, anxiety, and sensitive or irritated skin.
