Clove bud oil is steam-distilled from the flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum, a tropical tree native to the Maluku Islands of Indonesia. Its primary constituent, eugenol (70–90%), gives it powerful analgesic and antimicrobial properties — and also makes it one of the most potent skin sensitisers in aromatherapy.
